We're not too grand

My mother was a field of fall
With eyes as blue as water
She longed to have a son
Made her peace and had a daughter

And as her hands grow cold
Her eyes unfold
There is no joy in growing old
And I stood wishing that her world
Was not so small

And as her laughter fades
Her voice cascades
Right through my hopes and serenades
And I stood wishing there was silence
Where he stands
For he’s the rain that keeps on
Watering my hands.
