STORYLINE:
More than 2,000 cargo trucks were stranded on Tuesday at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border as Torkham crossing remained shut.
The closure of border crossings for bilateral trade entered a third day Tuesday after deadly weekend clashes between the countries spiked tensions and left hundreds of people stranded, officials said.
Traders and cargo trucks drivers said their commercial goods have spoiled due to the closure of the border, causing them significant financial losses.
It was not clear when the border might reopen.
The spokesperson for the governor of Nangarhar province Ehsanullah Osmani told the Associated Press that Pakistan violated Afghanistan’s territory, and then closed the border.
"The reason for all this is Pakistan," he claimed.
The fighting began Saturday night, when Afghan forces struck multiple Pakistani military posts.
Afghanistan officials claimed to have killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in response to what they said were repeated violations of Afghan territory and airspace.
