A new and massive project I've been planning on for the past 2 years.
It's a compound rest for the unimat SL 1000 lathe - made by the unimat for the unimat. Why? The unimat SL 1000 or the Unimat DB for that matter (same lathe, two names) never got a compound rest. The maker didn't make one - so if you want to turn tapers you have to unscrew the locking screw, release the lathe from concentricity with the tailstock and swivel the entire chuck/spindle/motor and pullies to the angle you want. Getting it back into concentricity is a load of fun for about 40min running back and forth with an indicator. So this is why I'm making this project. Made for a unimat by a unimat... :)
Actually, after I started I realized there is a better way to do this - and I may yet do it, next time with steel, not brass. But for now I'm working on this project and enjoying it.
Have a sweet day
