【Melodic Rock/AOR】Grand Prix (JP) - Bodies 1988~Emily's collection

【Pls look at the top comment first】I feel so excited that I am going to recommend this man and his classic project. Everytime I think of him, I cannot help but get high not only for his passion of rock spirit but also his nostalgic voice, one of the symbols of Japanese hair metal and melodic rock. Grand Prix was founded by Nobuo Yamada (やまだ のぶお), a.k.a. NoB, who was also the lead singer of Make-Up. This band should be distinguished from another British band of the same name. In 1986. Make-Up went through temporary break-up after releasing their most famous Saint Seiya Hits, and then NoB started his new project named "Grand Prix" and went along the route of melodic rock. There are a lot of similarities between Make-Up and Grand Prix but the latter sounds much closer to aor genre.

Frankly, Grand Prix is not a long-lived band of NoB. From 1988 to 1991, Grand Prix released four studio albums and their best collection was realeased in 2005, including the golden hits from their former works. By comparision, people tend to hear of more about Make-Up than Grand Prix. Besides Nob, the keyboards player Yohgo was also NoB's former mate from Make-Up.

This song "Bodies" is selected from their first album "Tears and Soul" released in 1988 and we can easily hear this band played a typical keyboard-driven style in the representative single. The splendid intro and the solo at 02:32 by abundant keys, are considered as the big hooks, making the music resonant. Also, there's a left-handed guitarist, Akio, so cool.

If you have no knowledge of Japanese, it doesn't matter. Just listen by heart, this is the essence of melodic rock among all the bands of Japan, even of Asia and the whole world.
