Our northward travels carried us along the rugged and ever-changing shores of New Brunswick’s Bay of Fundy, where the tides breathe in and out with ancient rhythm. Each curve of the road revealed new coastal scenes—mudflats glistening in morning light, fishing boats resting on their sides at low tide, and small villages where time seemed to linger just a little longer.
We had no set schedule, no reservations, no rigid plan—only the loose intention of reaching Hopewell Rocks, and if fortune and time allowed, crossing back into the quiet, unhurried corner of northeast Maine. There was a certain freedom in not knowing what the next turn might bring, in letting the days unfold as they wished.
But as with all journeys, the unexpected has its way of finding us. An unforeseen injury would soon interrupt the gentle rhythm of our travels, forcing us to pause and rethink our course.
