PM MODI ATTENDED BIMSTEC SUMMIT IN BANGKOK!!!


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, on Thursday to attend the BIMSTEC summit . During this, PM Modi was welcomed with a guard of honor in Bangkok.

The full form of BIMSTEC is Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). It is a regional organisation comprising seven member countries located around the Bay of Bengal.

The seven member countries include five countries from South Asia—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka—and two countries from Southeast Asia—Myanmar and Thailand.

BIMSTEC member countries cooperate in a variety of areas, including trade, investment and development; agriculture, fisheries and livestock; tourism; security; environment and climate change; and science, technology and innovation.

China is expanding its maritime and naval capabilities. Due to this, the Bay of Bengal is once again becoming a disputed area. Due to this, BIMSTEC has become important for India to counter the growing influence of China in the Indian Ocean region.
