The title is an abbreviation of "as slow as possible." It also refers to "Soft morning city! Lsp!" the first exclamations in the last paragraph of Finnegans Wake by James Joyce.
This piece is distinct from Cage's piano piece Aslsp. Although Aslsp also has eight sections, Organ2⁄ASLSP distinctly requires all eight sections to be played.
Although there is a lack of notated dynamics, registration, and tempo, time proportions are given. For this performance, these proportions have been carefully mapped by the performer in order to create an 8-hour performance (i.e. one hour per section).
