Lance Rooke (1926 - 10th May 2016) joined the British Army in 1942, by lying about his age. In 1943, he was posted to A Company, in the 1st Battalion of The Royal Ulster Rifles. He was later transferred to the 6th Airborne Divisional Headquarters Defence Platoon and saw action in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany.
Here he describes the conditions in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, shortly after it was liberated in April 1945.
