Weekend On A Tiny Smith Island - TRAVEL GETAWAYS. Another episode of of our travel getaways. This time, we spent a weekend on the Smith Island, a tiny piece of land in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. There are no bridges. Only connection to the island is by ferry (about 40 minutes). There are only 120 or so residents living and working here - mostly crabbing and fishing.
Time moves slower here. People are friendly and give you a warm hello and a wave as they pass by.
We saw a big nesting grounds of pelicans, cormorants and loons. The best part - an amazing sunset over the Chesapeake Bay was magical.
