✅ What MTB / e-MTB trails you get at Cannock Chase
Follow the Dog
• ~ 6.7 miles (≈ 10.8 km), red-graded — the “original” XC trail at Cannock.
• Mostly singletrack, with a mix of features: berms, rollers, rock gardens, boardwalks, step-ups/downs, jumps and drop-offs.
• Great for intermediate riders; good prep if you want to push harder next time.
The Monkey Trail
• Uses Follow the Dog as its start; full length ~ 14.2 miles (≈ 22.8 km) including Follow the Dog.
• More technical and demanding: hand-built sections, rock gardens, boardwalks, jumps, drops, and a technical descent called “Lower Cliff.”
• Has “black” optional lines for more advanced or confident riders.
Perry’s Trail + Leisure / Family Trails
• If you just want a more relaxed ride or warm-up, Perry’s Trail (blue/moderate) offers gentler singletrack, gradual climbs, rollable rock gardens — easier and more forgiving.
• There are also very easy green-rated circular leisure/family trails around forest & woodland — handy if you bring friends or non-MTB riders.
Stile Cop Bike Park (Downhill / Jump Park)
• For when you’re up for “go big or go home”: Stile Cop offers downhill runs, jumps, drops, berms — much more aggressive, and only for competent riders with proper gear.
• Short runs but technical and fun, good if you like downhill or want to push limits.

⚠️ What you need to watch out for (especially with an e-MTB + in wet conditions)
• Trail surfaces are often variable — loose stone, roots, mud, wet clay — so in rain or “slop” conditions (like you said before), it’s easy to get a washout or lose traction.
• Technical features (rock gardens, drops, boardwalks) demand good bike control and attention — risky in bad weather or if brakes/tyres are compromised.
• Because the trails are popular (especially the red XC ones), weekends or sunny days can be busy — worth riding outside peak times if you want more space/less risk.
⸻
🎯 Which trails suit you (given what happened last time)
Given your previous crash — rain, slop, front-end washout, brake failure — if you head back I’d recommend:
• Starting on Perry’s Trail or a green-rated leisure trail first (gentler, more forgiving).
• Avoiding technical features, drops or fast downhill until conditions and bike are checked.
• If you want to push again, maybe try Follow the Dog but take it smooth, with extra caution — skip risky “black” options.
