Inspired by many a #hardcopy terminal / #printing #terminal on antique minicomputers and mainframes, I created a contraption, a #cyberdeck of sorts, that allows you to control a rooted #Android tablet running Debian on LinuxDeploy (Termux being unavailable) via a 1980s typewriter, a Brother EP-22. The Brother EP-22, however, is "output only", and so I had to devise a way, involving also an ESP-32 microcontroller board (a clone of the Wemos R1 D32), to use "the tablet as a keyboard and the typewriter as a screen". — This sort of device combination may be interesting, as there are a lot more "output only" devices that could be hooked up in a similar fashion than there are true bidirectional RS232 serial terminals. — I hope to contribute it for use in this year's (2025) Vienna Daughters' Days, an event to inspire little girls to explore technology. For the amusement of the children, it is set up to run BWBASIC, a clone of the famous GW-BASIC of Microsoft from the 1980s. Figuring out the necessary Linux commands combination for this sort of "slowly typing Hollywood GUI" was an interesting challenge in and of itself. For the code (commands and Arduino sketch for the ESP32), see: https://github.com/KedalionDaimon/ESP...
