1. Twin Falls Waterfall - Mile Marker 2 🥽

Located at mile marker two, the waterfalls at Twin Falls are the first easily accessible set of waterfalls and pools on the Road to Hana. When you drive by, the parking lot will be a little crowded but don’t let that deter you because people come and go very quickly without taking full advantage of the beauty they’ll see inside this park.

The hike to the large waterfall seen @0:47 is only about a mile over a smooth dirt path surrounded by a lush rainforest. Remember to stick to the paths as the majority of Twin Falls is private property.

A relaxing swim in a large waterfall pool makes Twin Falls one of the best road to Hana stops you can make! Cost for parking is $10 for Non Residents.


2. Hiking Trails (Waikamoi Trail) - Mile Marker 9.5 🥾

The Road to Hana is packed with beautiful hiking trails that’ll allow you to stretch your legs as the trails lead you through dense jungle and bamboo forests.

If you didn’t get enough hiking at Twin Falls then I would stop at Waikamoi Nature Trailhead. It’s an easy hike with a picnic area making it the perfect stop for a break on your Maui road trip adventure.

The path is absolutely beautiful as many parts are covered with roots. The trail lies between Twin Falls and the Garden of Eden Arboretum. There’s a little shoulder for you to park on with a sign that says Waikamoi Nature Trailhead.

While there are many Road to Hana hiking trails - this one was one of my favorites and really felt like a hidden gem. After your hike be sure to grab a bite to eat at Halfway to Hana - located at mile marker 17.


3. Wailua Valley State Wayside - Mile Marker 18 🏝

A Road to Hana scenic lookout point you won’t want to miss! It’s easy to miss this little turnout at Mile Marker 18 but once you park head up the stairs where you’ll have a gorgeous view of Ke’anae Valley, Ko’olau Gap and Wailua Peninsula. The ocean never looked so blue from up here. This stop doesn’t take long and you can see everything in under 5 minutes or take your time and have a little picnic.

Just after Wailua Valley be sure to keep your eyes open for Upper Waikani Falls at Mile Marker 19. There’s no parking before the falls but there’s a shoulder to park on after you pass the bridge.


4. Pua’a Ka’a Falls - Mile Marker 22 🌊

By now you’ve noticed that the Road to Hana has many beautiful waterfalls. They are everywhere but the easiest one to reach is probably Pua’a Ka’a. Residing in the Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park - this is one of the rare waterfalls on Hana Highway where public access is welcomed.

There’s parking, restrooms, picnic tables and one of the most beautiful waterfall pools to swim in. Taking a dip isn’t hard but you’ll need to wade over a few rocks to get into the pool so be a little careful and remember to pack some swimming shoes.

If you are taking a Road to Hana tour bus then you’ll be glad to know that this is one of the stops made on your journey to the town of Hana.


5. Waiʻānapanapa State Park (Black Sand Beach) - Mile Marker 32 🏖

Waianapanapa’s black sand beach is our last stop and one you’ll need a reservation to get in. The “sparkling water” park is 122 acres of beautiful greenery and has one of Hawaii’s best black sand beaches.

Reservations should be made several days in advance as it can get quite crowded. Snorkeling at Waianapanapa is great but be mindful there are no lifeguards and the current can be strong. Cost for entry is $5 with a $10 parking fee.
