Over the past few years I've had the pleasure of visiting Richard and checking on his layout. He started constructing it about two decades ago. Richard has used his natural skills and relentless curiosity to create something that is rare in the model train hobby. It's more of an art installation than typical layouts.
It's large but the expansiveness comes from his use of forced perspective to create a continuous sense of running off into the distance. That, combined with his extensive knowledge of Muskoka communities, leaves the viewer with a feeling of being a visitor in the region of Ontario, and era, that Richard loves.
