Richard Simon Darbyshire (8 March 1960 – 10 November 2025) was an English singer, songwriter, producer and songwriting coach, best known as the frontman for the 1980s synthpop group Living in a Box.
In 1985, Darbyshire became the vocalist/guitarist for the fledgling band, which included drummer, Anthony 'Tich' Critchlow, and keyboardist, Marcus Vere.
The band named themselves after their first song, "Living in a Box", which reached the top 20 in the United States. Darbyshire split with the band in 1990 before their third album was completed.
In 1994, Darbyshire released his own debut album, How Many Angels. Darbyshire also wrote and produced songs for numerous artists, including the Temptations Lisa Stansfield, Mike Francis, Frank Musker, Richard Niles, James Last, Monica Naranjo, Level 42, and Jennifer Rush.
