The Carnival in Nice (Carnaval de Nice) takes place in February and is the largest winter event on the Cote d'Azur. Its origins date back to 1294, while the event as it's known today has been organized since 1872. The carnival was invented to provide entertainment for the bourgeoisie wintering on the French Riviera.The Nice Carnival, King of the Oceans, takes place from 15 February to 2 March 2025

This year the theme is the "King of the Treasures of the World" the Carnival of the treasures of our world heritage! The guest of honor this year is the Carnival of Rio. The Carnival of Nice is an unmissable event on the French Riviera.

Today, the two-week event attracts over a million visitors to Nice every year. Each year, a special theme is chosen, and artists create 18 floats and other figurines in traditional papier-mâché for the colorful parade. The parades take place day and night, while on the Promenade des Anglais, "flower battles" occur.

On the occasion of its 150th anniversary and to honour the inscription of Nice “Riviera winter resort city” on the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Nice Carnival 2023 will have as its theme the treasures of our world heritage.

The Carnival Parade (Corso Carnavalesque)
1. a Day Parade (Corso Carnavalesque), and.
2. a Night Parade (Corso Carnavalesque Illuminé) on Saturday and Tuesday nights.


THE MAGIC OF THE ILLUMINATED CARNIVAL PARADE
The Nice Carnival King makes his appearance in front of the crowd – and the parade begins.
The King arrives marking the beginning of the Nice Carnival parade. A breathtaking show lasting 2 hours, with twenty illuminated floats and lots of huge heads demonstrating the creativity of the floats with characters up to 20 meters high! A spectacle that makes children dream and takes adults back to their childhood. There are 5 illuminated parades during the Nice Carnival. On Saturdays and Tuesdays, come and spend the evening enjoying the illuminated carnival parades. The last one is special because it is when the old King is burned and the theme of the next Nice Carnival is revealed. A moving moment where everyone takes up the song: Nissa La Bella to close the event.
