Dead man's fingers, also known as Xylaria polymorpha, is a species of ascomycete fungi in the Xylaria genus that have some pretty fascinating characteristics. In this video we document the morphology of this mushroom on both the macro and micro scale. we do a bit of fungal microscopy and look at the asci in the ascocarp and examine the perithecia where the spores exit through the ostiole.
