In this Oklahoma Contemporary virtual gallery talk, Francesca Giani discusses the work and practices of Bright Golden Haze artists Robert Irwin and James Turrell, as they relate to the California movement often referred to as Light and Space. Focused on the use of light as a medium and on the viewer's perception as its main subject matter, Irwin's and Turrell's practice have influenced a new generation of artists active today such as Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, also on view at Oklahoma Contemporary. The talk will illustrate how Eliasson's socially engaged art matured and developed from Irwin's and Turrell's viewer-centered practices.
Join us each week for Thursday Night Late. Explore new perspectives through a mix of on-site and virtual programs, performances and activities inspired by the art on view in our galleries and Campbell Art Park.
