From the shores of dream to the headlines of collective madness, art rockers Ah Pook the Destroyer return with their second album, The King in Yellow. Resurrecting the mythical spirit created by Ambrose Bierce and Robert W. Chambers, the duo of Paul Shapera and Matthew Broyles apply the Yellow King's powers of mass insanity to modern conspiracies such as Qanon, casting a musical and conceptual spell that captures human nature from the historical to the present day.

Ah Pook The Destroyer is a collaboration between Paul Shapera and Matthew Broyles, where they take iconic pieces of classic, fantastical literature and use it to frame albums of dreamy art rock. Their first album, The Silver Key used a short story by Lovecraft, and now they take the 1895 book of horror fantasy The King In Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, which first introduced the trope of the “poison meme”, that is, a work such as a play that once read, begins a cycle of deterioration unpon the reader. This is framed using a myriad of sound bytes from modern conspiracy theories. It’s a piece of modern, psychedelic art rock with biting social commentary. Dreamy, disturbing, and captivating.
