Belle qui tient ma vie is a pavane for 4 voices (accompanied by a tambourine) composed by Thoinot Arbeau, whose real name was Jean Tabourot (1520-1595), canon of Langres, in his dance treatise Orchésographie published in 1589. The text celebrates courtly love[ref. needed] between a man and his beloved. It is a piece that is regularly found in the repertoire of contemporary performers of early music.
