In this video, I’ll get into Designing a Serving Dish using the same Vectric Clipart Library used in VCarve Desktop, VCarve Pro, and Aspire.

I’m going to demonstrate the design of a 2-sided 3D project. First, I’ll demonstrate adding all of the vectors and 3D components to both sides of the project. Then I’ll show you how I figure out the Shape Heights of the components on the top of the project, and on the bottom of the project. They do depend on one another. I’ll then calculate toolpath for both sides of the project, and share a trick I learned in this year’s Vectric User Group Meeting in September of 2020 to create a nice little foot on the bottom of our bowl. Along the way, I’ll show you a trick for determining the thickness of the material between two models on opposite sides of the project. Finally, I’ll calculate and preview all of the toolpaths to get a look at our serving dish.

As usual, if you have any comments or questions about anything I covered in this video, please join me for the Live Q&A, or put ‘em in the comment section below.

On Sunday, November 1st, I’ll be hosting a LIVE Q&A session, where you can ask your questions pertaining to anything I covered in this video. That Q&A starts at 3 pm Eastern time, Noon Pacific time. I hope to see you there!

The formula for determining the Shape Height of the Bottom Dome is:
Material Thickness minus the shape height of the foot. Round the result down anywhere between 0.01 inches (0.254 mm) and 0.02 inches (0.508 mm.) This result will be the Bottom Dome Shape Height.

The formula for determining the Shape Height of the Top Dish is:
Bottom Dome shape height minus the thickness of the material you wish to leave between the top dish and bottom dome. The result is the Top Dish Shape Height.
