2022 ARCA Menards Series Zinsser SmartCoat 200 at Berlin Raceway - Race Highlights

With 10 laps left, race-long leader Daniel Dye suddenly slowed with a mechanical problem with seven laps left, allowing Smith to chase down and pass him to take the lead.
Smith would lead the final half dozen laps to earn his first ARCA Menards Series victory in his sixth series start. Saturday’s race was also apart of the Sioux Chief Showdown.

Smith had raced inside the top-five throughout the evening, but admitted that he had nothing for the dominant Dye until suddenly slowed in the final laps.
Dye, the defending race winner at Berlin Raceway, started from the pole and was the class of the field all night. He was never seriously challenged while leading and appeared well on his way to his second-straight Berlin Raceway ARCA victory.
That is until he slowed dramatically less than 10 laps from the finish, opening the door for Smith to earn his maiden ARCA victory.

Tom Hessert, making his return to ARCA competition for the first time in four years, finished second in the No. 15 Toyota for Venturini Motorsports.
Hessert had resigned himself to finishing third until Dye’s late-race issues, which opened the door for him to earn a surprise runner-up finish.
Jesse Love finished third, with Taylor Gray and Rajah Caruth completing the top-five finishers.
Nick Sanchez, Dye, Greg Van Alst, Toni Breidinger and Brad Smith were sixth through 10th, respectively.
The ARCA Menards Series season continues next Saturday, June 25 with the running of the Menards 250 at Minnesota’s Elko Speedway.
