In this weeks video I am back at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley but also explore some of the interesting things in the surrounding areas of Netherton and Cradley Heath with some unexpected connections to the R.M.S Titanic. The most important people in this video however are the women chain makers of the Black Country, a group of women led by Mary Macarthur broke out of their chains and went on strike for fair pay. As a social historian it is the stories of normal people that always compel me and this story is one I have always felt very strongly about, the bravery and determination of these woman to fight for their rights in a time where that was not the usual way for females to behave. They had nothing to lose and went for it - changing the course of history for women in the workplace forever. Thanks ladies!
