1. Introduction to Major Pravin Singh (Retd.)
Major Pravin Singh (Retd.) is a decorated ex-officer of the Indian Army, a product of the elite Parachute Regiment, and an alumnus of the University of Allahabad. Having topped the university and cleared the CDSE thrice, he was selected for the Armed Forces on merit and groomed under the finest regimental traditions. His deep passion for nation-building and youth leadership led him to dedicate his post-military life to education and mentoring defence aspirants.
He has been a pioneer in the Private Military School movement in India, spearheading the Cardinal Warriors School initiative, mentoring schools with a military ethos, and aligning private education with national defence goals. He is regarded as one of the earliest visionaries who advocated for private participation in the military schooling model, well before the New Sainik School Policy came into effect. His commitment is rooted not just in policy innovation but in moral leadership, discipline-based pedagogy, and the belief that Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs) must be instilled early to prepare future officers of character and courage.

2. Background and Context
2.1 History of Military Schools in India
• RIMC (1922): Founded to Indianize the officer cadre during British rule, continues to produce top NDA cadets.
• Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS): Started in 1925 (Chail), followed by Ajmer, Belgaum, Bangalore, and Dholpur, with a strong tradition in discipline and leadership.
• Sainik Schools (since 1961): A visionary project by then Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon to provide equitable access to military training and academic excellence. These schools have since become the backbone of NDA and INA feeder systems.
• Private Military Schools: Institutions like Bhonsala Military School (est. 1937) and new private models like Cardinal Warriors are contributing to this domain. The evolution has created room for hybrid private-public models of military schooling.
2.2 New Sainik School Policy (PPP Model)
• Launched by the Ministry of Defence, the new model allows private entities, NGOs, and educationists to establish New Sainik Schools under Public-Private Partnership with the Sainik Schools Society.
• These schools function with the CBSE curriculum plus military ethos, NCC, and sports.
• The government offers incentives such as scholarships (50% fee reimbursement for up to 50 students), training modules, and inspection guidelines to eligible schools.
