How many renditions of this song exist? Probably too many—and mine is surely unnecessary. But I wanted to give it a shot, since it's a classic that features some really cool drumming ideas, like playing the three verses in three different ways. Stewart Copeland started overdubbing little things here and there; in the first verse, for instance, you can hear a ride bell overdubbed while he's playing the hi-hat. He used to overdub toms and floor toms as well on top of his fills, adding more power to the transitions.
