Winning for Women is a public seminar hosted by Per Capita and the Chifley Research Centre.
Speakers include: Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher, Hon Kate Thwaites MP, Hon Ged Kearney MP, Senator Jess Walsh, Senator Lisa Darmanin, Jo Briskey (Candidate for Maribyrnong), Sarah Witty (Candidate for Melbourne). Hosted by Emma Dawson (Per Capita).
The Albanese Government has achieved more for women and girls than any in our nation’s history.
From reaching gender parity in caucus and cabinet, to record levels of women’s labour force participation.
From lifting wages in the feminised care economy to expanding paid parental leave.
From introducing paid domestic violence leave to investing $500million in women’s health.
From securing three days of guaranteed subsidized early childhood education and care to funding paid placements for students in teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work.
From delivering the first Women’s Economic Security Statement to restoring parenting payment to single mums until their youngest child turns 14 and abolishing Parents Next.
Not to mention appointing exceptional women as Governor General, Chair of the Reserve Bank, Chair of the ACCC and Chair of the Productivity Commission.
Never has a government moved so fast and so boldly to improve the lives of Australian women.
The contrast with the Morrison Government, which devoted just 0.038% of its 2020 budget to women’s security, and proudly proclaimed that they didn’t want to see exceptional women rise if it meant mediocre men had to make way, could not be more profound.
Recorded on 22 April 2025 @ Queen Victoria's Women Centre.
