In this video Prof. Patterson provides context for the rise of Cloud Computing. What is it exactly? Why is it a thing now? What is the current state of the world such that businesses and individuals are incentivized to put their work on "the cloud" rather than a server that they have purchased and that they maintain? He touches on how issues of universal connectivity, mobile user interfaces, system virtualization, security threats and web applications have driven the trend. This is the first of a two part lecture.
This video is used in courses taught by Prof. Donald J Patterson (@djp3) at UC Irvine and Westmont College.
