I finally got to try out the Cold Sweat I’d been wanting for my ‘87 Mockingbird, but before making the switch, I tested it back-to-back with the Holydiver in my Les Paul, just to see how different they really are.
Like most of my experiences with Bare Knuckle Pickups, they sound pretty similar overall — just some small differences. In this case, both pickups have a similar vibe, but the Cold Sweat feels like it has a bit of a low-pass filter going on — a little more aggressive in the upper mids. I wouldn’t be surprised if just swapping in a ceramic magnet on the Holydiver got you super close to the Cold Sweat’s vibe.
Anyway, I think the Cold Sweat suits the Mockingbird really well — so I’m happy with the move. Enjoy the video.
