TRIP REPORT | MASwings MH3434: Miri MYY ✈ Bario STOLport BBN | Rare! 1st Report on YouTube!

Join me on a trip to the interior of Sarawak, Bario, on a light turboprop! I travelled to Bario STOLport on a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter on Malaysia's Independence Day. The Twin Otter is MASwings' workhorse, flying in and out of MYY base as it serves rural area service (RAS) in the interiors of East Malaysia, ie. Sabah and Sarawak.

RAS service provided by MASwings are subsidised by the Malaysian Government. However, due to the high cost of operating flights with limited passengers but high frequency, the ticket of the flights are not always cheap, even with the subsidies. As of time of writing, foreigners will have to pay more for MASwings RAS flights from now on after Malaysia Airlines Group upgraded their booking system to Amadeus Plus, where they can easily single out Malaysians and foreigners. This allows tax-paying Malaysians only to enjoy the subsidised tickets instead of everyone on the flight.

Take note that before flying, you are required to weigh yourself at the check-in counter. Do not be offended as this is a required step for your safety: they need to know the weight of each passengers boarding a particular flight and balance the weights (luggage included) so as not to tip this light aircraft to a side.

P/s: The description at @7:19 in this video is wrong. This DHC-6 should be the 4th of 6 Twin Otters MASwings ordered to renew its Twin Otter fleet. I apologise for the misinformation.
