Imagine trying to accurately forecast how many white shirts you will need seven months from now. Upscale this to tens of thousands of clothing items, across 20 fashion brands and it becomes difficult. What makes it almost impossible is the fact that the source data is siloed, contains errors and lacks ownership.
At Bestseller, we tackled these challenges by building a self-service data analytics platform built on data mesh principles using Terraform.
The mission: enable data engineers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to create and share reusable data products with business teams - making actionable data as available as electricity. Tool of choice: Terraform modules, tailored for data engineers, that allow them to ingest, transform and shape raw data into value-delivering data products.
In this talk I’ll demonstrate how Terraform serves as a game-changer, allowing three engineers to build and now manage this platform for over 100 stakeholders. Join me in sharing our journey on how we used Terraform and Snowflake, which challenges we faced as early adopters, and the victories we won while building a self-service data platform-as-code.
