V-280 Valor: The New Black Hawk

After decades of service, the UH-60 Black Hawk is set to be replaced by the V-280 Valor, a groundbreaking decision made by the U.S. Army in December 2022. This selection marked a new chapter for the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program, which aims to usher in a faster, more versatile generation of helicopters.

By August 2024, the program reached a crucial milestone, with the approval of Milestone B, initiating the transition into the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase. During this stage, six prototypes will be constructed and tested to assess their performance, reliability, and suitability for the future battlefield.

As Douglas R. Bush, the Army’s acquisition executive, stated: “FLRAA will provide significantly increased speed, range, and endurance for the Army's future assault and MEDEVAC capabilities."
