Thinking of travelling from Kuching (Malaysia) to Pontianak (Indonesia) by bus?
Here’s the full real-world journey: prices, visas, border control, delays, money changers, safety, and what actually happens on this long-distance route across Borneo.
I took the morning bus from Kuching Sentral Bus Station and crossed the border at Entikong. The Malaysian side was easy… the Indonesian side? Interviews, questions, confusion, Visa on Arrival, and a VERY long day. If you’re planning this route, this video shows exactly what to expect.
What’s in this video:
• Kuching Sentral → Pontianak long-distance bus
• Border checks on both sides
• Visa on Arrival (VOA) process
• How much it costs
• How long the journey really takes
• What happens at immigration
• Safety tips on the Indonesian side
• ATMs, taxis, Grab pricing, and hotel arrival
• First impressions of Pontianak
This journey took around 7 hours and is one of the main land crossings between Malaysian Borneo and Indonesian Borneo. If you’re planning to do it yourself, hopefully this helps!
