On this episode of MATA, Mihingarangi Forbes has a kōrero with Media Specialist Carmen Parahi and political commentator Shane Te Pou to discuss Te Pāti Māori’s big win in Tāmaki, their controversial media ban and an unapologetic MP’s racially charged posts.

In the final days of the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election, Tākuta Ferris posted on Instagram, criticising Labour for having "Indians, Asians, Black and pākeha" campaigning for its candidate Peeni Henare.

While Ferris doubled down on his social media post, Parahi and Te Pou say his stance is politically naive, pointing to long histories of Māori-Pasifika solidarity and the need for Tangata Tiriti allies.
