In a Hamilton Mountain neighbourhood, several people are raising concerns about the construction of a new home.
The structure is being built on the same property where a home exploded in 2021.
The structure at 279 Bonaventure Dr. towers over the other homes in the neighbourhood, residents say it looks out of place, and has left those that live in the area wondering why a big structure is allowed to be built in the city.
While others are complaining the structure has ruined the view they used to have of the city.
The Ontario Fire Marshall previously said no one was injured in the explosion and it was not considered suspicious.
Klaus Eckhardt lived in the area at the time and says in the weeks leading up to the explosion there was work being done on the house.
Some residents who want to remain anonymous say they’re concerned with the safety of the new home, because the Director of Building with the City of Hamilton says it was constructed without the required permits.
One resident tells CHCH they are concerned some codes are not being followed.
The city tells CHCH News it has issued a ticket to the owner along side a ‘Stop Work’ order for the location in December.
Residents of the area say they have seen workers at the site of the property since December’s stop work order.
CHCH attended the site and did not witness any work being done on the building Thursday or on Friday.
The owner of the property refused to speak with CHCH in an interview, but the city says the owner has applied for a minor variance application with a hearing set for Feb. 13, where residents will be able to voice their opinions.
