But there is one place that stands out above all the rest, Los Caracoles, the oldest continuously family operated restaurant in Barcelona in existence since 1835, now operated by the fifth generation of the family that started it.

It's one of the most famous restaurants in town, great food, a historic atmosphere with a traditional Catalan - Mediterranean cuisine.
The waiters carry many plates at a time to deliver the goods. Although it's a large restaurant, the service is extremely efficient.
It is the perennial challenge for the tourist to find an authentic local restaurant, but at Los Caracoles you have got the real thing.
Aurora Bofarull plays many roles at the restaurant: she's part owner with her family and she's the hostess, she takes reservations, gives tours of the restaurant, manages public relations, and she has lots of help from her excellent staff.
