The Temple of 10 Million Bells

Ghorakhal is the small place situated in the Nainital district of the Uttarakhand state. Famous for the temple of Lord Golu Devta or Golu Dev the legendry God of justice in Uttarakhand. Ghorakhal is located at 15 kilometers from Nainital and 3 kilometers from Bhowali.

Ghorakhal is nested in the lap of Shivalik ranges of Himalayas. At a height of more than 2000 meters, Ghorakhal is a picturesque site full of scenic beauty and breathtaking views surrounded by Bhowali ranges. Provides a perfect opportunity to photography lovers to capture the beauty of nearby Bhowali ranges and the bird eye view of Bhimtal Lake. The other major tourist attraction near Ghorakal temple is Tea garden at Shyamkhet. This place is about 2 kilometers from Ghorakhal temple.

The temple of Lord Golu Devta or Golu Dev is located on a hill top in Ghorakhal at a height of more than 2000 meters above sea level, amidst in the lush green trees of pine and Deodar. The famous Golu Devta temple at Ghorakhal in Nainital district is adorned with millions of bells. Lord Golu Devta or Golu Dev is the legendary God of Justice in the Kumaon and eastern Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Lord Golu Devta or Golu Dev is considered as an incarnation of Gaur Bhairav (Lord Shiva), and is worshipped all over the Uttarakhand region. He is regarded as the dispenser of justice by the devotees with extreme faith. There are many temples of Golu Devata in Kumaon, and the most popular are at Chitai, and Ghorakhal.

It is popular belief that Golu Devta dispenses quick justice to the devotee. Golu Devta is famously regarded as God of Justice. The devotees worship the deity and ask for the justice on behalf of the injustice have been done to them or with their family. People believes that God asks for a bell in propitiation, as is evident from the hundreds of thousands of bells strung across the temple premises. Anyone can seek Golu Devta divine intervention by writing to him. Stacks of letter are pinned all over the temple along with bells.

Thousands of people come here from all over the country to seek justice from the Golu Devta. Devotees in turn offer bells after the fulfillment of their wishes. Hundreds of thousands of bells of every size can be seen hanging over the temple premises. For this reason, it is also called the temple of 10 million bells. Many devotees file a lot of written petitions daily to Lord Golu Dev by using stamp papers for seeking justice, which are received by the temple. Thousands of bells tied everywhere in the temple symbolize the faith of Golu Devta among the people. Due to its serene environment, this temple draws people towards itself.
