After months of hunting (and passing on a sketchy C32), I finally pulled the trigger on a 2005 Mercedes E55 AMG. Picked it up in Sacramento for $10,900 and drove it home through the Salt Flats. This thing is a supercharged V8 monster with the legendary M113K engine—but it’s already giving me problems.
Fuel pump seals leaking into the cabin, coolant sensor throwing warnings, a small oil leak, and a stereo that might be shot. Not exactly the dream start. But this car is going to be my full-on project build: coilovers, E63 facelift, pulley + tune, new exhaust, wrap, wheels, and way more.
High mileage or not, I’ve wanted to dive into the car world for years—and this E55 is about to be my crash course.
