MOSQUES OF KUTTICHIRA | Story of Thekkepuram | Mishkal Mosque | Munchundi Palli | Jumait Palli

The old Thekkepuram neighbourhood of Kozhikode now called Kuttichira has many frames to it & each brings out beautiful colors. The way of life in Kuttichira is in many ways the reason for the prosperity of Kozhikode. The story of Kuttichira is incomplete without the mention of three mosques here - The Mishkal mosque, Muchundi Palli & Jumait Palli.

Hearitage continues its journey of narrating stories of some of the most important heritage sites in Kerala & this detailed documentary traces the history of the three mosques in Kuttichira.

The Storyteller in this video is Rania Abdul Samad who is a Arts Graduate from Providence Women's college and is a resident of Kuttichira. She describes herself as a curious explorer and loves learning new things.
The Presenter is Rajeesh Raghavan and the beautiful frames are captured by Jubin Bennet.

Key Points to Note
These mosques are places of worship & non Muslims have to take prior permission to enter
There are many ancestral houses in and around Kuttichira which are quite grand & still accommodate large families.
The Kuttichira pond and its surroundings were recently renovated by the Dept of Tourism (DTPC Kozhikode) with assistance of the residents & local community
Walk around the pond to see young children enjoy swimming sessions or take time to view the stories depicted on the heritage walls regarding different moments in history
The roads leading to Kuttichira from the beach have stories of its own & the bylanes are all lined with traditional houses and shops.
Try the food from any eatery around Kuttichira and you will certainly come back for more. The neighbourhood opens quite early in the morning so one can certainly grab a meal at any time of the day.
The people here are very accommodating and courteous which makes it easy to understand why Kozhikode is known for its hospitality !
