JULY NEWSLETTER TRANSCRIPT:
Hello friends. The weather has been all over the place this month. One day it rains, the next day it is warm. It can be hard to know what to wear. Has it been the same for you? We're happy to share our news from July and let you know about events coming up in August - and this autumn!
SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT
Ben has been helping many people in the deaf community find jobs. He can help with job searching, filling in application forms, writing CVs, preparing for interviews and more. He also gives advice and support with Access to Work.
Ben doesn’t just support people who are looking for a job. He also helps employed deaf individuals with any issues they may face, such as when an employer lacks deaf awareness.
Since December, around 10 deaf people have gained employment through this support service!
When and where to find Ben:
Every 2nd Tuesday
10am to 12pm at Mansfield Coffee Morning
1pm to 4pm at Mansfield Central Library
Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month
10am to 12pm at Nottingham Central Library, Room 4, Floor 2
You can also join the Job Club WhatsApp group for information and updates. Scan the QR code found in the video or written version of newsletter
SAM'S GRADUATION
One of our interpreters, Sam, has just graduated. She said:
"I'm pleased to say I've finished my Postgraduate Diploma at Uclan in Preston making me a fully qualified interpreter! I graduated on the 11th of July and have enjoyed celebrating with family and friends. I feel it's an amazing honour to work with the deaf community and I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey so far. I look forward to working with you all in the future!"
Well done, Sam.
TO OUR BSL STUDENTS
Well done to everyone who studied BSL with us this past year. Good luck with your assessments!
Recently a group of students, taught by Robert Powell, have all passed their BSL Level 1 with flying colours!
STUDENT REVIEWS
“I am so pleased to have completed the course, I have learnt so much, a huge thank you for the course and especially Simon & Robert.”
“I loved learning in a friendly environment and how helpful and nice everyone in the building is. I really enjoyed this course, thank you so much.”
“I love the teacher's humour. The activities were really fun and helped me to apply what I'd learned in a more practical way.”
“Robert’s style of teaching is a great fit with my style of learning. He has been very in-tune with the general ability of the class and has done a fantastic job of identifying things/topics that I could do with working on/ practising more. His use of humour generally has been fantastic for confidence building - quickly realised he is very approachable.”
“I really appreciate how comprehensive the topic coverage has been! Robert’s teaching has been incredible and I am thankful for the amount I’ve learned - far more than I expected to.”
