Game: Nosferatu
System: Super Nintendo
Version: (US)
This is a longplay of the game Nosferatu, an action-platformer developed and published by SETA Corporation, released in 1994 in Japan and in 1995 in the United States. The game is exclusive to the Super Nintendo.
The game's story takes place in Transylvania, where Kyle and Erin, a couple, are on a work trip. However, they end up being kidnapped, with Erin being taken by Nosferatu to a castle. Kyle must then infiltrate the castle and navigate through various levels filled with enemies and traps to rescue Erin.
This game contains references to films from the 1920s and a wide range of themes involving vampires, werewolves, and zombies. The game is based on vampire horror mythology and is heavily influenced by works such as Dracula and the 1922 German expressionist film Nosferatu. There are two films about Nosferatu released at very different times that deal with the same theme: a couple who go to Transylvania for work and end up as hostages of Count Dracula, called Nosferatu due to copyright issues.
Let's look at the game's characteristics. Here we control Kyle, who exclusively uses martial arts techniques to defeat enemies. Punches, kicks, and sweeps make up his arsenal. In addition to defeating enemies, Kyle needs to overcome dangerous traps. The items to aid in the journey are basically crystals of different colors: green to recover life, red to increase the number of combos and the strength of attacks, and blue to increase the size of the life bar. The gameplay is quite reminiscent of Prince of Persia, but here it is very poorly executed, besides the level design problems in more advanced stages. The game was released in 1994, having a very simple design compared to others of the same era. If it had been released at the beginning of the Super Nintendo era, it would certainly have achieved greater success.
The game has two endings, one bad (if the player dies many times, which turns Erin into a vampire) and the other good (not dying or dying only a few times). The video was made in Hard mode, obtaining all the blue crystals and the best ending.
I hope you enjoy it.
