PROGRAM PART I- Introduction to the Riccioli Catalog of Craters
By Brian Hancock
The names for lunar craters seem to be randomly placed and hard to remember. In this presentation, Brian addresses this issue by providing you with an introductory Catalog of Craters, based on the Moon map published in 1651 by Giovanni Riccioli.
PROGRAM- PART II: Navigating the Virgo Cluster (Revised).
By: Jeremy Veldman
Spring is Galaxy Season and early April is an ideal time (the only time) to attempt a Messier Marathon. But, if you’re going to successfully find all 110 ‘deep sky’ objects in Charles Messier’s catalog, you have to bag the 16 galaxies (faint fuzzies) in the Virgo Cluster. This can be a daunting task, given that there are thousands of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster and distinguishing one from the other can be very difficult! Jeremy will show you the roadmap, and outline some simple techniques for identifying the Messiers in the Virgo Cluster. Revised from his March 2018 Talk.
