🎲🐉Advanced D&D 2E vs 1E: The Changes Many Missed

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition arrived in 1989 with a brand-new look—and a lot (over 100!) of changes under the hood. Some were small quality-of-life tweaks. Others completely reshaped how the game was played.

In this video, I dig into the rules that were added, dropped, and reworked when D&D's publisher TSR moved from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition. From the Monstrous Compendium’s wild binder format to the removal of half-orcs and assassins, to the way initiative and combat evolved—2E really did change D&D in ways you might not remember.

ELLA FITZGERALD COCKTAIL
➡️1.5 oz Gin
➡️0.75 oz Simple Syrup (traditional; I used Lavender Simple Syrup - recipe below)
➡️0.75 oz Lemon Juice
➡️2 dashes Angostura Bitters
➡️6-7 fresh blueberries
➡️Garnish: Skewered blueberry
➡️Glass: Stemmed cocktail glass (like a coupe or Nick-and-Nora)
➡️To Make: Add the blueberries, bitters, and simple syrup to the bottom part of a shaker tin and muddle until the blueberries release their juice. Add the gin and lemon and shake over ice until well-chilled, at least 20 seconds. Double strain into a prepared glass and garnish with the blueberry.

Lavender Syrup
➡️¾ cup granulated sugar
➡️¾ cup water
➡️2 Tbsp. culinary-grade lavender (organic, if available)
➡️To Make: Bring all ingredients to a low boil in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir frequently and let boil until sugar has fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain into a clean jar, cover and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
