Tensions in the Black Sea surged after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned a series of Ukrainian drone strikes that hit two Russian oil tankers near Turkey’s exclusive economic zone. The attacks on November 28 and 29 targeted the Virat and Kairos—vessels described by Ukrainian officials as part of Russia’s sanctioned “shadow fleet.” Ankara confirmed the Virat was struck twice within 24 hours, sustaining minor damage but no casualties. Ukrainian security sources told CNN and AP that domestically produced Sea Baby naval drones carried out the operation in coordination with the SBU and the navy.
