After loads and loads of gravel and preparing the footing forms, we're finally pouring the concrete! These footings will support posts with adjustable brackets that will be flexible with the frost heave and earthquakes common in this area of Alaska. The brackets (which we'll install on posts next summer) will allow us to raise or lower posts individually rather than being all on one continuous footing that can break. Even though we'd hoped to get the pole barn started this summer, we're proud of what we accomplished: clearing a large, forested parcel for the shop, bringing in loads of fill, building an outhouse, and then the forms and concrete, we're excited to build next summer! Our off grid homestead is getting closer....
