Jaeger was a German composer of the first half of the nineteenth century. He was born in Schlitz near Fulda, Hesse, and was known to have worked as a town official there in the postal mail office. Little is known about his musical education or activity, but he published a collection of 12 chorale preludes around 1840, and two free pieces by his hand are also known. This prelude on the chorale "Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier" (Dearest Jesus, we are here) is the No. 3 from Jaeger's "Zwölf leichte Vorspiele, Erste Sammlung". The composer does not adhere closely to the hymn melody, but varies this freely with alternating sequences in the different voices most reminiscent of a classical style, and fairly pleasant to the ear. It is being presented with one repetition. Instrument: Johannus Monarke "Breughel".
