If you—or someone you love—has Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), there’s a major change you need to know about.
SIJS is meant to protect immigrants under 21 who were abandoned, abused, or neglected by one or both parents.
Until now, approved SIJS applicants received deferred action, allowing them to get a work permit and Social Security number while waiting for a green card.
🛑 But that just changed.
➡️ USCIS will no longer issue or renew work permits based on SIJS.
➡️ No more deferred action.
➡️ Applicants must now wait for a visa to become available — with no work authorization in the meantime.
This update affects thousands of vulnerable youth. Make sure you understand what this means, what your options are, and how to prepare.
