The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee Stunt Compilation (20th Anniversary Special)

After 7 years, I’ve finally gotten round to remaking my old stunts compilation of Return of the General Lee on my old channel, and what better way to do it than to celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary on its exact day of release?

Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee was developed by Ratbag Games and published by Ubisoft. It was originally released on 28th September 2004, for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The plot sees the Dukes helping to save an orphanage from closure and redevelopment into a water resort, a scheme enacted by none other than Boss Hogg. Given that this is a game centred around vehicles, all of the missions involve driving in all kinds of manners - collecting, following, escaping, chasing, and of course, racing! It is also an open-world game, following the trend popularised by Grand Theft Auto III.

This game is admittedly a mixed bag. You can finish the entire game in one sitting, since it has a short story. The steering physics can be shoddy at times, especially if you're going fast, and some of the missions get repetitive. Heck, the open world atmosphere can even be unintentionally scary with its lack of music, and the police cars that suddenly chase you at certain locations.

On the other hand, even though the story is short, it feels much in tune with the style of the show. The multiplayer mode is also well done, and two of the three modes allows you to choose different cars besides just the General Lee (the third one, the demoliton derby, only allows police cars). The open world is fun to explore, and there are MANY opportunuties for some epic stunts (hence, this video!). Most importantly of all, Return of the General Lee marks the final ever time the original TV cast reunited for an official work of Dukes of Hazzard media. Aside from John Schneider and Tom Wopat appearing in the General Lee for a 2014 Auto Trader commercial, we've never seen an official reunion happen since.
