NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman briefed members of the press about the current state of affairs on the International Space Station, announcing that Crew-11 would be coming home within the next couple of days. The sudden briefing came about after a crew member onboard the ISS had what NASA called a “medical situation” on Wednesday, causing the agency to postpone a planned spacewalk scheduled for Thursday morning, Jan. 8.
Isaacman was joined during the briefing by NASA Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya and Dr James Polk, Chief Health and Medical Officer at NASA Headquarters. The news briefing at NASA HQ began shortly after 5 p.m. EST (2200 UTC).
Spaceflight Now Reporter Will Robinson-Smith provided commentary and context beginning about five minutes prior to the start of the news conference and a breakdown of the news after the briefing wrapped up. He was joined by Gina Sunseri, a Houston-based space reporter for CBS News.
