LEDGER BECOMES NEW 'JOKER'
Heath Ledger will play the 'Joker' in the sequel to last year's "Batman Begins," Warner Bros. studio announced on Tuesday.
"The Dark Knight" is set to begin production next year, with Christian Bale again slated to play Batman, and Christopher Nolan repeating as director.
Nolan said in a written statement he was challenged to find and actor who was
extraordinarily talented and fearless. He expressed excitement at watching Ledger's forthcoming interpretation of the historic character.
Ledger was nominated for a best-actor Oscar for his role in last year's "Brokeback Mountain."
Ledger will resurrect the role last memorably played by Jack Nicholson.
