Since I loaded the Niantic Scaniverse app on my iPhone, I've been having a great time creating Gaussian Spalts of the world around me. These images are especially fun when viewed with a virtual reality headset like the Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro. This is a new technique that's considered a reality capture and it's what I always wanted when I take pictures to remember. It's like making and sharing a memory with others and part of a new art form.
Niantic's Scaniverse app enables the creation of photorealistic digital twins, by synthesizing high-definition 3D scenes out of photos taken on a smartphone.
