Cale Rail is a model & railway society located in the Blackmoor Vale of England, on the Somerset / Dorset border. Each year - well not when the Country is in lockdown - the society hosts a small model railway exhibition at the Gartell Light Railway near Templecombe. This was the first time I had visited this show and I hadnt been to the GLR for about 25 years, so was looking forward to a train ride - unfortunately, the Northern extension wasnt open, but the class 33 inspired diesel loco was working.
Layouts on show were as follows:
Downsview Preserved Railway - 4mm scale oo gauge layout, controlled by dcc with the locos featuring dcc sound.
Norge - a 3.5mm scale HO layout featuring a Norwegian branchline. This layout features many animations, dcc sound and some beautifully modelled buildings.
Highfield Road - A 4mm scale OO gauge layout, which is still under development. Controlled by dcc with wi-fi control - the very latest in technology.
Myra Canyon Railroad - a 7mm scale layout, running trains oN30 & oN18. The layout was destined for demolition before being rescued by the new owner, who is slowly restoring it to full working order.
Watershoot Bay - a 4mm scale OO gauge layout, based on a fictional branchline on the Isle of Wight. Southern Railway rolling stock features.
Lattiford End - 7mm scale O gauge branchline, set in the transition period of British Railways, when black steam locos and green diesels tussled for our affections.
Four Bridges - A layout featuring narrow gauge trains running amongst scenery featuring both 4mm and 7mm scale elements. Confused? Somehow, some of it actually works and the modelling is really good too - if a bit barmy!
Wyvern Wharf - another 7mm scale O gauge branchline terminus. Set between the 1930' and 1950' the layout features GWR rolling stock. For a small country terminus, the branch is well facilitated with a goods yard, loco shed and wharves.
West Hill - a 4mm scale OO9 narrow gauge railway based layout. Having served its time with an industrial operator, the line has now been taken over by a preservation group. Again, more impeccable modelling.
Kinale Works - a 2mm scale N gauge layout - a very compact layout that contains so much in a 3'6" x 2'6" space. A single loop line with sidings runs through a built up factory and industrial setting.
Forest of Arigonne - a layout that isnt a layout! Originally built as a diorama during lockdown (in a hotel room) this is another World War 1 based creation from Railway Modellers own Callum Willcox.
The final part of the film is of train operations on the GLR.
I hope you enjoy the film. If you are new to my channel, please subscribe and feel free to comment and share. Click on the video links for more model railway exhibition action and check out my playlists for more content.
best wishes and thank you, Iain
